Ukrainian Forces Reported to Control Vuhlehirs'k
Yesterday, September 5 a video was uploaded to YouTube titled "Ukrainian troops still appear to be in control of Vuhlehirs'k". (The town is known as Uglegorsk in Russian).

The blogger @djp3tros of Ukraine@War has geolocated the video for The Interpreter here on Google Maps.

Here is the route of the Ukrainian patrol along Nekrasova Street:

Additional confirmation is at 0:33 where there is a sign with an arrow for the ATB supermarket chain 300 meters away. The ATB in Uglegorsk is at 37 Nekrasova St.

On the Russian popular social media site VKontakte, there is a local group called Eto, Uglegorsk, Detka ("This is Uglegorsk, Child").

One member of the group from this town posted the following news this evening:

There is quiet in the city. The utilities are working. There's electricity. There's Internet and cable but not everywhere. There's no water. The stores are working. The MTS [cell phone] connection is down. There are a lot of people in the city. The city is coming back to life.

A local news site also posted a notice about the water supply:

Translation: The station is providing water for the cities of Enakievo, Debaltsevo and Uglegorsk. But to restore the water supply in these towns...

The VK group has posted many pictures of the war there, but they are from a month ago and mainly not from this town.

There's a vigorous debate in the group about which party bears responsibility for the armed conflict, the "people's republics," Russia, or Kiev, and interestingly, the latest news is discussed, from the video by Graham Phillips inadvertently revealing Russian Federation soldiers in Lugansk, to Marie Harf's statements about NATO exercises at the State Department briefing Friday.

Russian Forces Attack Mariupol; 'Donetsk People's Republic' Says 'Taking' Mariupol

To recap, in the last three hours we have reported shelling resuming in Mariupol; the Russian Army reported to shell outside Mariupol; evidence of violence in the Azovstal area; a Ukrainian checkpoint on the eastern edge of Mariupol struck by shells; and of course a Russian Federation military convoy seen in Lugansk (possibly leaving Ukraine).

It seems pretty clear that the Russian Federation Army and Russian-backed fighters are attacking Mariupol.

Yet, early on September 7, ITAR-TASS ran a report claiming the opposite:

"Outside Mariupol the positions of the militia were shelled, apparently, from the Grad system of volley fire. Militia fighters had to reply, and as a result, battle broke out with heavy forms of weapons," said an agency source. In his words, the sounds of shots and volleys of heavy artillery were heard in various districts.

Perhaps the reality -- that it is not the Ukrainians attacking but the Russians -- proved too discordant even for ITAR-TASS, and the story was pulled. It is still viewable in Google cache.

This led to some macabre humor:

Translation: the aggressively standing Mariupol attacked the peacefully moving convoy of lost soldiers from the RF.

Many of the Russian POWs captured by Ukrainian forces on the field of battle in Lugansk last month told stories of not realizing they were going into Ukraine or getting lost and accidently crossing the border.

But from all these events, it seems as if the ceasefire has seriously eroded, if not ended, even though the "Donetsk People's Republic" wanted to blame the Ukrainian side.

First came this announcement:

Translation: the Armed Forces of Novorossiya are taking Mariupol.

Then the self-justifications:

Translation: DPR Prime Minister Zakharchekno: agreement on ceasefire is completely not observed, battles are continuing.

Translation: The DPR announces the violations of the ceasefire in Mariupol and the provocation of the [Ukrainian] forces.

The account of the DPR Press on Twitter appears to be the outlet used most now on Twitter for "official" news from the Russian-backed fighters.

Ukrainian Checkpoint On Eastern Edge Of Mariupol Struck By Shells

"This doesn't look like a ceasefire," said my colleague Stefan. The eastern checkpoint in Mariupol has been shelled.

We spent the night from Thursday into Friday in this plantation.

The official Twitter account for the Russian-backed self-proclaimed 'Donetsk People's Republic' (DNR) announced that:

The armed forces of Novorossiya are taking Mariupol.

Evidence Of Violence In Azovstal Area In Eastern Mariupol

Cars have been found shot up with "people dying from bullet wounds" in the industrial Azovstal area in eastern Mariupol, where shelling has resumed, indicating the end of the short-lived ceasefire declared in Minsk yesterday.

Russian Army Reportedly Shelling Outside Mariupol

There are reports this evening that shelling has resumed in Mariupol, and Ukrainian volunteers blame the Russian Federation forces in the area, regional news site by24.org reports. Russian Federation forces disguised as "people's militia of Donbass" once again began shelling in Mariupol this evening at approximately 22:30 local time  from the Grad BM-21 system, by24.org reported.

The Interpreter has translated the story:

According to reports from eye-witnesses, volleys from Grads can be heard in the neighborhood of Vostochny [to the east]. The suburban town of Shirokino is being shelled, which several days ago was literally levelled to the ground along with its civilian residents, although not a single Ukrainian soldier was there," says by24.org.

The press service of the Ukrainian Azov Battalion told journalitss that the Russian Federation army was firing the Grads at Ukrainian checkpoints. Azov said it was not returning fire, in keeping with orders from President Petro Porosehkno regarding the ceasefire. Azov believed there was not an immediate danger to the city of Mariupol.

By24.org published two night-time videos with Grads audible:

There were multiple reports of the ceasefire breaking down and people fleeing.

Translation: the port of Mariupol has died. Before there were more than 10 ships a day moored in the harbor.

Translation: BILD reporter Paul Ronzheimer reports "There are massive explosions, resident are running in a big panic" Mariupol.
