Fighting Continues In Ukraine, As Do Questions About US Response
The fighting continued to rage in Avdeyevka on Saturday, February 5, north of Donetsk airport and elsewhere: 

The Ukrainian military reported 51 ceasefire violations. One soldier was killed and another wounded in the fighting.

Unian.info reports:

"At about 17:30 local time [on Saturday, February 4], the occupiers launched an offensive against the ATO positions near the industrial zone of the town of Avdiyivka, using 152mm guns and 120mm mortars. Their attack was repelled and they had to retreat," the ATO HQ said.

Main battle tanks and infantry fighting vehicles were used to shell the village of Kamyanka and Avdiyivka in the Donetsk sector. The terrorists used banned 152mm artillery system to attack the village of Novoluhanske, and 120mm and 82mm mortars to shell Avdiyivka and the village of Zaitseve.

Heavy fighting was also reported in the Mariupol sector, and in a worrying development, the Ukrainian military reported that Grad rockets were used in the Lugansk sector, near the village of Novozvanivka

In good news, however, power has reportedly been restored to Avdeyevka, a development which will be welcome since temperatures have sometimes dropped to well-below freezing while the fighting, which has been raging for more than a week, knocked out power and other utilities:

Power supply resumes in Avdiyivka, Poroshenko thanks government, army

Chairman of Donetsk regional military and civilian administration Pavlo Zhebrivsky has informed Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko about the resumption of the power supply in the town of Avdiyivka in Donbas after it was cut off the power girds a few days ago as a result of hostilities.

Saturday's fighting was not as intense as we have seen throughout what has been a truly bloody week for Ukraine:

Meanwhile, there are unanswered questions about the new Trump administration's response to the fighting. While some members of Trump's administration have had strong words toward Russia, there are other indications that Trump himself may be more accommodating, and recent confusing statements coming out of the White House are not helping matters.
