The Ukrainian government reported earlier today that 3 Ukrainian soldiers had been wounded in the last 24 hours. Oleksandr Motuzianyk, spokesman for the Ukrainian Anti-Terror Operation (ATO) reported that the Russian-backed fighters who occupy much of the Donbass broke the ceasefire 78 times over that period of time.
78 is a large number of ceasefire violations, which follows a pattern of recent escalation. But the epicenter of the fighting keeps shifting. Over the previous day Ukraine reports that the heaviest fighting was in Luganskoye sector northwest of Donetsk, while Mariupol, south of Donetsk -- site of heavy shelling recently -- was quieter. Tensions remained higher in Donetsk.
Unian.info reports:
In the Luhansk sector, the occupiers used banned 152mm artillery systems to shell the town of Popasna, and the villages of Kalynove and Novozvanivka. They also fired 120mm and 82mm mortars on the town of Zolote, and the villages of Sentianivka, Novozvanivka, and Krymske. Further, rocket-propelled grenades and small arms were used to attack the villages of Novozvanivka and Novo-Oleksandrivka.
