The Ukrainian military reports no use of heavy weaponry by Russian-backed forces, but does claim that grenade launchers, machine guns and small arms were used across the front line.

Ivan Arefeyev, spokesman for the ATO Press Center, told the 112 news channel that, as of 8:00 this morning, not one attack had been recorded since midnight.

Meanwhile the Russian-backed separatists in Donetsk have accused Ukrainian forces of violating the ceasefire 47 times over 24 hours.

According to Eduard Basurin, deputy commander of the armed forces of the self-declared Donetsk People's Republic (DNR), Ukrainian troops used grenade launchers and small arms in attacks on the outskirts of both Donetsk and Gorlovka.

President Petro Poroshenko has praised the late Andriy Taranov as "one of Ukraine's best defenders."

Taranov,, who was deputy head of the Presidential Administration, died yesterday as a result of an accident with a "water scooter" on the Dnieper River in Kiev.

Poroshenko acknowledged that a large part of Taranov's activities must remain classified, but said that he had played a key role in coordinating security operations on the front line, organising the creation of special forces and airborne units, and reforming the intelligence services.
