Ukrainska Pravda reports that a group of MPs in the Verkhovna Rada have registered a draft resolution calling for the dismissal of the interior minister, Arseniy Avakov.

The chairman of the anti-corruption committee, Yegor Sobolev, wrote on his Facebook page (translated by The Interpreter):

Ukraine needs a new interior minister. Arsen Avakov has failed the task of cleaning the Interior Ministry of corrupt officials and werewolves. The Chebotar affair was the last straw.

We are registering a draft resolution for the dismissal of Avakov in the Verkhovna Rada.

On April 28, a group of journalists were attacked while filming at a dacha belonging to the daughter of Avakov's deputy, Sergei Chebotar. The reporters later identified the attacker as Chebotar's son-in-law and his business partner.

MP Serhiy Leshchenko tweeted that he and several other deputies had already signed the draft resolution:

Translation: Sobolev, Barna, Dobrodomov, I myself, Derevyanko, Mateychenko, Melnychuk, B. Beryoza and Krivokhatko have signed in favour of Avakov's dismissal.
