AM News: Russian Police Shoot Dead 3 Islamist Militants in Dagestan; Russian Man Dies in US Custody
Last night, May 3, police in Dagestan, a republic of Russian in the North Caucasus, killed three militants in a gunfight in the Kizilyurt District, the regional news service, Caucasian Knot reported.

Police said that in the village of Stalskoye at 23:31, they were conducting unspecified operations. When they tried to stop a car in which three men were traveling, the men opened fire on them.

One of the three turned out to be Umar Sabuyev, born 1982, the leader of a local armed group who had been on the police wanted list for some times. A second was said to be Abas Khubayev, age 25. The third was not yet identified.

Police said they found a machine gun, pistol, and several grenades in the car.

According to Caucasian Knot's "Chronicle of Terror," In April a policeman in the village of Golot in the Shamil District was murdered, and the perpetrator was believed to be in the armed Islamist underground. In Sogratil in the Gunib District, two militants were wounded when police shot at them in pursuit.

Caucasian Knot reports that so far this year in Dagestan  5 policemen and 11 suspected terrorists have been killed in counter-terrorism operations; in addition, one militant was killed when he attempted to set a bomb.
